Yanga have officially returned to the top of the league standings after a commanding 3-0 victory over Singida Black Stars at KMC Complex.
Allan Okello, popularly known as “Star Boy,” once again stole the spotlight with a brilliant performance, scoring twice to move level with striker Prince Dube as Yanga’s top scorer this season with nine goals.
Okello opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a superb free kick that left goalkeeper Metacha Mnata with no chance.
Following the goal, the Singida BS technical bench responded by substituting goalkeeper Metacha, bringing on Amos Abasogie.
However, the change did little to stop Yanga, who scored a second goal before halftime in the 42nd minute through Mudathir Yahya, who finished off a rebound after the goalkeeper initially made a save.
Yanga could easily have gone into the break with an even bigger lead had Maxi Nzengeli, Okello, and Mudathir converted the chances they created.
The second half saw Yanga continue to dominate possession and create numerous scoring opportunities, although they still struggled with finishing.
It was Okello again who sealed the victory in the 69th minute with Yanga’s third goal, taking his season tally to nine goals.
The win moves Yanga to 57 points and officially restores them to the top of the league table, ahead of rivals Simba, who sit second with 55 points.
