Young Africans SC head coach Abdihamid Moalin has defended team captain Bakari Nondo Mwamnyeto, insisting he has no doubts about his ability despite the own goal incident that occurred during the Premier League match against Dodoma Jiji FC played in Singida.
In that match, Mwamnyeto accidentally put the ball into his own net while attempting to clear danger, a moment that led to heavy criticism from fans on social media.

However, Coach Moalin said the incident should not reduce confidence in the defender, explaining that mistakes are part of football and life in general.
“Everyone knows Bakari Mwamnyeto is a great and highly respected player, not only at Yanga but also in Tanzanian football as a whole,” said Moalin.
“I cannot question his ability because it is something that is clear to anyone who follows football. Mistakes are part of human life, not just football. If you are afraid of making mistakes, you cannot show your quality or confidence on the pitch.”
“Even great players around the world make mistakes, but what sets them apart is how they respond and fight back stronger. Bakari is a leader on and off the pitch. He has great experience, always fights for the team, and his contribution to Yanga is very significant,” he added.
The coach further emphasized that Mwamnyeto remains an important part of the squad and will continue to receive full support from the technical bench and club leadership.
“We have full confidence in him and we continue to support him because we know his ability and what he can bring to this team,” Moalin concluded.
Despite pressure from some fans following the incident, Yanga’s management appears to stand firmly behind their captain, believing his experience remains crucial for the current season.
