Simba SC head coach Steve Barker has expressed satisfaction with the FIFA international break, saying it will be a major boost for his squad after a demanding run of back-to-back Tanzania Mainland Premier League fixtures.
Barker explained that the congested schedule in recent weeks has created significant challenges for players, particularly due to fatigue and minor injuries affecting several key members of the squad.
Simba SC, who sit second with 58 points behind rivals Young Africans SC on 60 points, remain locked in a tight title race where every match carries major significance as the season approaches its conclusion.
16 matches in 66 days
Reports indicate that Simba SC have played a total of 16 matches in 66 days, including CRDB Cup fixtures, averaging nearly one match every four days.
Barker said this situation has forced many players to compete while not at 100 percent fitness, with some playing through minor injuries to help the team maintain results.
Injury concerns affecting the squad
The coach noted that several players have been dealing with injury problems, which has led to the absence of key players in some crucial end-of-season matches.
In their last match against Dodoma Jiji, Simba SC were without defender Rushine De Reuck, while Clatous Chama finished the game limping. Seleman Mwalimu played while not fully fit, and David Kameta picked up an issue during the final training session before the match.
Barker said these challenges have been significant, but stressed that the current break offers an important opportunity for recovery and rebuilding fitness levels across the squad.
Focus shifts to season finale
After the FIFA break, Simba SC are expected to return to action on June 14 against Pamba Jiji, followed by a demanding run-in including league matches and a CRDB Cup semi-final against Coastal Union.
According to the schedule, Simba SC will play roughly one match every three days, making the current break a crucial period for preparation and recovery as they push for silverware.
