A major transfer battle is expected in the upcoming window between Tanzania’s traditional football rivals Simba SC and Young Africans SC, as both clubs begin early moves to secure the signature of striker Suleiman Mwalimu.
Reports indicate that Yanga have already opened talks with Wydad Athletic Club in an effort to secure the services of the striker, who is currently on loan at Simba. His loan deal is expected to expire in June, after which he will return to his parent club.
Yanga appear to be planning to strengthen their attacking line ahead of next season’s CAF Champions League. Within their current squad, there is heavy reliance on forwards Depu and Prince Dube, prompting club officials to seek additional attacking depth.
A key advantage for Yanga is that Mwalimu is a local player, meaning his potential signing would improve squad balance without affecting foreign player slots.
However, Simba are not willing to let him go easily. The club’s management is determined to retain the striker, who has become an important figure in their squad this season. Mwalimu is currently Simba’s leading scorer with six goals, demonstrating strong consistency in attack.
His increased importance has come particularly after striker Jonathan Sowah was suspended over indiscipline allegations, which led to him being removed from the first-team setup and recently assigned to train with the club’s youth side.
