Simba SC have reportedly begun early planning for squad improvements ahead of next season, with talented Ugandan attacking midfielder Abdulkarim Watambala emerging as one of the players on their radar following his impressive 2025–2026 campaign.
The Tanzanian giants are currently in a tight Premier League title race, trailing rivals Young Africans SC by just two points with five matches remaining for each side before the season concludes.
This situation has pushed the club to start early preparations for strengthening key areas, especially in midfield, to ensure they return stronger next season.
According to reports from Uganda, Simba SC are closely monitoring Watambala, who was named the 2025–2026 Uganda Premier League Most Valuable Player (MVP) while playing for Vipers SC.
Watambala played a key role in Vipers SC’s title-winning season, helping them finish top of the table with 67 points after 19 wins, 10 draws, and just one defeat.
Impressive Season Statistics
The midfielder enjoyed an outstanding individual season, recording:
Goals: 12
Assists: 4
Appearances: 28 out of 30 matches
Overall, he contributed directly to 16 goals, making him one of the most influential players in Vipers’ successful campaign.
Watambala was named MVP ahead of other strong contenders including Frank Ssebufu and Raymond Barasa Mangoli of SC Villa, Ivan Ahimbisibwe of KCCA, and Ambrose Kigozi of Entebbe UPPC.
Simba SC are believed to be looking to strengthen their attacking midfield options, and Watambala is seen as one of the priority targets due to his age, technical ability, and match-winning influence.
However, no official agreement has been reached yet, and any potential move will depend on negotiations in the upcoming transfer window.
