The curtain has finally fallen on the semi-finals in emphatic fashion, with all eyes now turning to the Kariakoo Derby after Simba SC booked their place in the Muungano Cup final with a commanding 3-0 victory over Mlandege FC.
The match, played at the New Amaan Complex, saw Simba display impressive quality despite head coach Steve Barker making significant changes to the squad and leaving out several key first-team players.
From the opening minutes, the “Wekundu wa Msimbazi” dominated the game, creating multiple scoring opportunities. Elie Mpanzu, who was deployed as a shadow striker, missed several chances that could have given his team a first-half lead.
In the second half, the game took a completely different turn after Barker made crucial substitutions, bringing on Yusuph Kagoma, Suleiman Mwalimu, Anicet Oura, and Clatous Chama—changes that transformed the flow of the match.
Simba broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute through Suleiman Mwalimu, who finished off a fine pass from Clatous Chama after an excellent move on the flank.
In the 72nd minute, Anicet Oura doubled the lead with another assist from Chama, who dominated the midfield alongside Kagoma and Neo Maema.
The third goal came in the closing minutes, with Maema scoring from just outside the box with a powerful strike to seal the emphatic victory.
Maema was named Man of the Match after delivering an outstanding performance throughout the full 90 minutes, leading the midfield with creativity and discipline.
The win sets up a final clash between Simba and their traditional rivals Young Africans SC on April 29 in the Muungano Cup final.
This also sets the stage for an intense football schedule, as fans will witness two Kariakoo Derby matches within a single week—the first being the Muungano Cup final, followed by another showdown on May 3 in a Premier League match at the Major General Isamuhyo Stadium.
