PSG have won the UEFA title for the second straight time

Paris Saint-Germain have continued to make new history in European football after winning the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League title following a 4–3 penalty shootout victory over Arsenal in a thrilling final played at Puskás Aréna in Budapest. After a 1–1 draw in regular time and no goals being scored during extra time, PSG showed remarkable composure in the penalty shootout and successfully defended their European crown.

Arsenal started the match at a high tempo and took an early lead through Kai Havertz in the sixth minute, giving them strong hope of winning the first Champions League title in the club’s history. Mikel Arteta’s side appeared to control much of the first half, while PSG were forced to work hard in search of a way back into the game.

The second half brought a different story as PSG increased the pressure on Arsenal. Their efforts paid off in the 65th minute when Ousmane Dembélé converted a penalty to equalize, bringing the final back level. The goal changed the momentum of the match and greatly increased the excitement among the packed crowd in the stadium.

Despite both teams creating several scoring opportunities during the remainder of normal time and extra time, neither side managed to find a winning goal. As a result, the European champions had to be decided by a penalty shootout—a stage often associated with both heartbreak and joy.

During the shootout, PSG displayed great calmness and focus. For Arsenal, the most difficult moment came when defender Gabriel was given the responsibility of taking the final penalty. His effort went wide of the goal, extinguishing Arsenal’s hopes as PSG’s players began celebrating their championship triumph. Just a few seconds were enough to change the course of the night and determine the fate of the European title.

This victory has further confirmed PSG’s status as one of the best teams in the world today. Winning the Champions League in consecutive seasons is a remarkable achievement that reflects the strength of the squad and the significant progress the club has made in recent years. Paris can now proudly count itself among the few teams that have successfully defended the European title in the modern era of football.

Although Arsenal ended the night in disappointment, there is no doubt that their 2025/26 season will remain historic. They won the Premier League title after a 22-year wait, reached the Champions League final for the first time since 2006, and progressed through the knockout stages without losing a single match until they were defeated in the final penalty shootout.

Manager Mikel Arteta also deserves great praise for the work he has done. Since being entrusted with rebuilding Arsenal, he has successfully restored the club to the highest level of European competition. Reaching the Champions League final while also winning the English league title is a clear sign that Arsenal are now among Europe’s elite clubs and have a very promising future ahead.

In the end, Budapest witnessed a final that contained everything football fans love: technical excellence, intense competition, pressure, joy, and heartbreak. PSG left with the European trophy in their hands, but Arsenal departed with great respect after an exceptional season. History will remember this final as one of the most exciting and emotionally charged UEFA Champions League matches of recent years.
