Manchester United Yet to Decide on Michael Carrick Future

Manchester United have not yet made a final decision on whether to appoint interim manager Michael Carrick on a permanent basis, despite his impressive results since taking charge.

Carrick was appointed as interim coach in January 2026 following the departure of Ruben Amorim, with the task of leading the team until the end of the season.

According to recent reports, the Manchester United hierarchy is still evaluating several options before making a final decision on who will take over as the permanent manager.

Although Carrick has earned support from fans, analysts, and some players, the club has not ruled out other candidates, including high-profile coaches across Europe.

Carrick puts himself in a strong position

Since taking charge, Carrick has guided United up to third place in the league standings, putting the team on the verge of securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season.

These results have significantly boosted his chances of landing the job permanently, with some analysts suggesting the role is now “his to lose” given his quick impact.

Competition remains

However, reports indicate that Manchester United are still monitoring other managers, including Andoni Iraola, who is considered one of the potential challengers for the position.

For now, Carrick appears to be the leading candidate, but a final decision is yet to be made and is expected after the end of the league season.
