A significant step has been taken to improve sports infrastructure in Tanzania following the official start of major renovations at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, as part of preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The upgrades focus on the playing surface (pitch), with work underway to replace and improve the grass to meet international standards required by global football governing bodies. According to the renovation schedule, the process is expected to take approximately six months to complete.
As a result, the stadium will not host any sporting activities throughout the renovation period to allow the new turf to properly grow and stabilize.
