Veteran AC Milan midfielder and Croatia national team captain Luka Modric (40) is expected to miss all remaining Serie A matches this season after suffering a cheekbone injury during Sunday’s match against Juventus.
According to reports from inside the club, Modric sustained the injury after a collision with Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli in the closing stages of the goalless 0-0 draw.
After the incident, he briefly continued playing but was later forced off due to severe pain, leaving the pitch holding the left side of his face. Medical examinations later confirmed a cheekbone fracture requiring immediate surgery.
Further reports indicate that the injury is serious enough to rule him out for the remainder of the 2025/26 season, with surgery scheduled for Monday.
Despite missing club action, Modric is expected to focus on recovery with the aim of returning in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Croatia.
Team doctors suggest that if his recovery goes well, he may use a protective facial mask during the tournament.
His absence is a major setback for AC Milan, who are still competing for top positions in Serie A and pushing for strong end-of-season results. The experienced midfielder has been a key figure in their midfield due to his leadership and game control.
