Barcelona Edge Closer to La Liga Title as Yamal Injury Raises Concern

FC Barcelona took a major step toward winning the La Liga title after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo in a match played on Wednesday night, April 22, 2026.

The only goal of the match was scored by teenage star Lamine Yamal in the 38th minute from the penalty spot, after he was fouled inside the box.

The win takes Barcelona to 82 points at the top of the table, putting them nine points clear of rivals Real Madrid with just six matches remaining in the season.

This result places Barcelona in a very strong position to clinch the La Liga title, needing only a few more positive results to confirm their triumph.

However, the victory came with a setback as Lamine Yamal picked up an injury shortly after scoring the penalty. The youngster appeared to clutch his hamstring and was forced to leave the pitch soon after putting his team ahead.

The incident has raised concerns for Barcelona’s technical bench led by coach Hansi Flick, especially given Yamal’s importance to the team and the tough fixtures ahead, including the upcoming El Clasico.

Despite Barcelona dominating large portions of the match, Celta Vigo put up strong resistance and created several chances but failed to convert them. VAR also denied Barcelona a second goal scored by Ferran Torres due to offside.
