Uganda defensive midfielder Khalid Aucho has once again been linked with a potential return to Young Africans SC after reports indicated that his contract with Singida Black Stars is set to expire at the end of the current season.
Aucho, who signed a one-year deal with Singida Black Stars, is expected to become a free agent once the season concludes. This situation opens the door for several clubs to compete for his signature, including Yanga SC, where he previously played an important role.
Since his departure from Yanga, fans and analysts have often pointed out that the team has struggled to find a long-term replacement in the defensive midfield role. His strength, experience, and leadership in midfield were seen as key factors in the club’s past success.
After his exit, Yanga attempted to reinforce the position by signing Moussa Balla Conte, but the player failed to secure a regular place in the starting lineup and was eventually sent out on loan.
The club later brought in Mohamed Damaro “Ngosha” on loan from Singida Black Stars to strengthen the holding midfield role.
Currently, Duke Abuya carries much of the responsibility in the defensive midfield position, while Damaro also features when available. However, injuries and disciplinary issues have affected consistency in that area.
Yanga are expected to return to the transfer market in search of a high-quality defensive midfielder ahead of next season, and Aucho’s name has resurfaced due to his experience and previous success at the club.
Aucho left Yanga after contract negotiations broke down, with the player reportedly seeking a two-year deal while the club was only willing to offer a one-year extension, leading to his departure by mutual agreement.
