Azam FC Open Early Talks with Ex-Yanga Coach Pedro Gonçalves as They Search for New Manager

The management of Azam FC is reportedly in early-stage talks with former Young Africans SC head coach Pedro Gonçalves, as they look to appoint him ahead of the upcoming season.

Reports suggest that Azam FC are searching for a replacement for Florent Ibenge, who is said to have reached an agreement with the Mali Football Federation to take over the national team job.

Since parting ways with Yanga, Gonçalves has remained without a club, increasing the possibility of him joining Azam FC if negotiations are successful.

His time at Yanga

Young Africans SC ended their relationship with Gonçalves earlier this month following a 1-0 victory over KMC.

Despite going unbeaten in league matches during his tenure, the Yanga leadership decided to part ways with him, reportedly due to concerns that his tactical approach did not fully align with the club’s football philosophy.

Azam FC strengthening their squad

Azam FC appear to be making strong moves in the transfer market, aiming to secure an experienced international coach to strengthen their squad and increase competition with league giants Yanga and Simba.

If the deal goes through, Gonçalves would become one of the few coaches to have managed both of Tanzania’s biggest rivals, potentially adding a new layer of excitement to the domestic league.
