The Tanzania Mainland Premier League title race continued to heat up on Sunday, May 24, 2026, with several matches played across the country bringing significant changes to the league standings.
Simba SC’s narrow victory over Dodoma Jiji FC at KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam saw the Msimbazi Reds reclaim the top spot in the league table. Simba secured a 1–0 win to move to 58 points.
The only goal of the match was scored by forward Elie Mpanzu, who reacted quickest to tap in a rebound after Dodoma Jiji’s goalkeeper saved a penalty taken by Clatous Chama. The victory has further intensified the title race as Simba continue battling rivals Yanga SC, who are set to face Namungo FC on Monday.
In another match played in Morogoro, Mtibwa Sugar FC were held to a 2–2 draw by JKT Tanzania. JKT took the lead through Paul Kasunda in the 19th minute before Haroun Lyawatwa equalized for Mtibwa in the 37th minute. Kasunda struck again in the 42nd minute to restore JKT’s advantage before Mtibwa found another equalizer in the second half to rescue an important point at home.
Meanwhile, Fountain Gate FC continued their positive run with a 2–1 victory over TRA United in a match played in Arusha. The win has boosted Fountain Gate’s hopes of climbing further up the table and improving their league position.
For TRA United, the defeat dealt a major blow to their hopes of competing for a fourth-place finish after losing such an important home fixture.
