Simba SC have officially moved to the top of the Tanzania Mainland Premier League standings after securing a 2-1 victory against Coastal Union at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga.
The Msimbazi Reds showed great fighting spirit after coming from behind following an early goal from the hosts. Coastal Union took the lead in the 8th minute through Maabad Maulid, sending the home fans into celebration.
However, Simba did not lose confidence. Attacking midfielder Libasse Gueye equalized in the 37th minute with a powerful strike from just outside the penalty area after receiving an excellent pass from Clatous Chama, who once again delivered an impressive performance.
Before halftime, Simba grabbed the second goal through Anicet Oura, who headed home from a well-delivered corner kick taken by Chama. The goal gave Simba a 2-1 lead heading into the break.
The second half saw Simba return with greater intensity as they searched for more goals to secure the victory. Substitute striker Suleiman Mwalimu, famously known as the “Super Sub,” had several clear chances but failed to convert them.
The result moves Simba to 55 points and pushes Young Africans SC off the top of the league table. However, Yanga still have a chance to reclaim first place if they defeat Singida Black Stars in tomorrow’s match.
Meanwhile, Clatous Chama continued to prove his importance to the team after winning the Man of the Match award for the fifth consecutive game.
