Aston Villa Make History by Winning the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League

Aston Villa have written a new chapter in European football history after winning the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League title with an emphatic 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg in the final played in Istanbul, Turkey.

The triumph ends Villa’s 30-year wait for a major trophy and officially restores the club to the ranks of Europe’s football elite.

Manager Unai Emery once again proved his dominance in the Europa League after winning the competition for the fifth time in his coaching career. Emery had previously lifted the trophy three times with Sevilla and once with Villarreal before now bringing it to Villa Park.

In the final, Aston Villa displayed complete superiority from start to finish. The goals were scored by Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendía, and Morgan Rogers, while Freiburg struggled to cope with Emery’s tactics and the pace of Villa’s attack.

Aston Villa’s Transformation Journey

When Emery joined Aston Villa in 2022, the club was battling near the bottom of the Premier League table. In just a few years, he transformed the team into a major force in both English and European football. He guided Villa into the UEFA Champions League and has now delivered their biggest European trophy since winning the European Cup in 1982.

Aston Villa supporters have praised Emery for restoring the prestige of the historic English club. Team captain John McGinn described the victory as “proof of the tremendous work done over the past few years.”

Emery: “This Is the Beginning of a New Era”

After the match, Emery said the achievement reflects how far Aston Villa have progressed. The coach also emphasized that the club still has even bigger ambitions in next season’s Champions League campaign.

With the victory, Aston Villa have now secured qualification for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League season.
