The football federation of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) has officially announced its 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Pyramids FC star striker Fiston Mayele included in the important lineup.
Head coach Sébastien Desabre has selected a blend of experienced players based in Europe along with stars performing well in Africa and the Middle East, as DR Congo returns to the tournament for the first time since 1974.
Mayele, who currently plays for Egyptian club Pyramids FC, has been in outstanding form this season after scoring crucial goals in both domestic and African competitions.
Other big names included in the squad are Yoane Wissa, Cedric Bakambu, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Chancel Mbemba, and Simon Banza.
According to the tournament schedule, DR Congo has been drawn in the same group as Portugal, Colombia, and Uzbekistan. The Leopards are hoping to use the competition to showcase their quality on the world stage after waiting more than 50 years to return to the FIFA World Cup.
