The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has officially unveiled a preliminary 55-man squad for preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with major stars Neymar Jr. and Thiago Silva making a return to Brazilâs plans.
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti included both players in the provisional squad as the Seleção begin preparations for the tournament, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026.
Neymarâs return has become a major talking point because of the injuries that have kept him sidelined for long periods since 2023.
The Santos star is still working to regain his best form, but Ancelotti stated that the final decision regarding Neymarâs place in the squad will depend on his performances and physical condition rather than his reputation alone.
In an interview with Reuters, Ancelotti explained that Neymar has shown significant physical improvement in recent weeks and has started performing better for Santos. However, the coach emphasized that there will be no room for sentiment in the final selection of Brazilâs squad.
Meanwhile, 41-year-old Thiago Silva continues to earn consideration because of his vast experience with the national team. The veteran defender, who previously captained Brazil in several major tournaments, is still viewed as an important part of Ancelottiâs plans heading into the competition.
The preliminary squad will eventually be reduced to 26 players who will travel directly to the World Cup. The final list is expected to be officially announced before FIFAâs submission deadline in June this year.
Other stars included in the provisional squad are VinĂcius JĂșnior, Rodrygo, Casemiro, and Marquinhos, while several young talents missed out because of injuries and intense competition within the team.
