Top-Four Battle Intensifies in NBC Premier League Fixtures

Coaches and players are preparing for crucial NBC Premier League matches set to take place across Tanzania today, with Singida Black Stars hosting Namungo FC at Airtel Stadium while TRA United welcome JKT Tanzania at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha.

Every team involved is fighting for a better position in the league standings as the race for the top four becomes increasingly competitive.

If fourth-placed Singida Black Stars defeat Namungo, they will strengthen their hold on that position and move to 38 points. However, if they lose and JKT Tanzania defeat TRA United, the two teams could swap positions in the standings.

Currently, Singida Black Stars and JKT Tanzania are level on 35 points, separated only by goal difference. Meanwhile, TRA United also have the chance to move ahead of JKT if they win and reach 38 points.

Namungo FC, who sit 11th on the table with 24 points, could climb as high as ninth place with a victory over Singida Black Stars. A win would move them to 27 points, above both Fountain Gate and Mashujaa.

In their previous meetings, Singida Black Stars have won four matches while Namungo have recorded three victories, with two games ending in draws.

Singida Black Stars coach Muhibu Kanu said:

“Namungo have quality players and are highly competitive. They attack well and defend strongly, but we are also fully prepared to secure three points at home.”

Namungo captain Jacob Masawe added:

“We are in a more difficult position than Singida Black Stars, so every match is important for us to win. We have prepared ourselves and we are ready to fight as much as possible.”

TRA United vs JKT Tanzania

Beyond the battle for top-four points, the clash between TRA United and JKT Tanzania also carries a special storyline involving the two coaches — Ettiene Ndayiragije and Ahmad Ally.

The two tacticians reunite nearly seven years after working together at KMC in 2019, where Ndayiragije served as head coach before leaving for Azam FC while Ahmad Ally remained with the club.

The Burundian coach was also responsible for introducing Ahmad Ally to the Tanzanian Premier League in 2017 after recruiting him from Marsh Athletes Sports Academy in Mwanza during his time at Mbao FC.

After enjoying success together at Mbao, Ndayiragije later moved to KMC and took his technical bench with him, including Ahmad Ally and fitness coach Faraji Muya.

Following a short spell at Azam FC, Ndayiragije later coached the Tanzania national team, Taifa Stars, before moving to Kenya’s Police FC and eventually returning to Tanzania with TRA United.

The match at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium is attracting huge attention as both teams continue fighting for a top-four finish and possible qualification for continental competitions next season.

This season, TRA United and JKT Tanzania have both impressed with their competitiveness, not only in the league race but also by reaching the semifinals of the CRDB Federation Cup alongside Yanga, Simba, Azam FC, and Mashujaa.

At the moment, JKT Tanzania sit fifth with 35 points and a goal difference of +1, while TRA United are sixth with 33 points and a stronger goal difference of +7.

Speaking ahead of the game, JKT Tanzania coach Ahmad Ally said:

“We understand the importance of the points battle in the standings, but we are ready for the match. We know it will be difficult, but we have prepared tactically, mentally, and psychologically. My players are strong and ready.”

On his side, Ndayiragije stated that his ambition is to guide TRA United into continental football.

“Every match for us is a battle for three points as we chase our dream of representing the country internationally,” he said.
