Tottenham Edge Closer to Relegation Battle After Leeds Draw

After a 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Monday night, Tottenham Hotspur now find themselves dangerously close to what could become one of the biggest disasters in the club’s recent history.

Spurs had a golden opportunity to ease their relegation fears after West Ham United lost to Arsenal, but failed to take advantage. The gap is now only two points, with Tottenham on 38 points and West Ham on 36, while both teams have two matches remaining.

The biggest concern for Spurs is not just the points tally, but also their remaining fixtures. They will face Chelsea away from home before ending the season against Everton. Chelsea are still fighting for European qualification, while Everton will want to finish strongly in front of their home supporters. For a Tottenham side that has struggled for consistency throughout the season, those two matches look extremely difficult.

Meanwhile, West Ham still face a tough schedule but perhaps with slightly more hope. They will travel to face Newcastle United before finishing the season at home against Leeds United. Newcastle are battling for a top position, but the final game against Leeds could become a decisive “survival final” for Premier League safety.

What worries Spurs fans most is the team’s form. Under coach Roberto De Zerbi there have been signs of improvement, but the team still gives away points too easily. Against Leeds, Tottenham took the lead through a fine goal by Mathys Tel before the same player conceded the penalty that allowed Leeds back into the match.

West Ham are not safe either. Despite losing to Arsenal, they have shown more fight in recent weeks compared to Spurs. According to Opta statistics, West Ham still have a higher probability of relegation than Tottenham, but the gap has narrowed significantly due to recent results.

On paper, Spurs still control their own destiny. One victory from their final two matches could be enough to secure safety without depending on other results. However, pressure remains their biggest enemy. Every minute without a win increases the fear around a club that has not experienced relegation for many decades.
