Singida Black Stars have begun efforts to strengthen their attacking line ahead of next season after reportedly submitting an official offer to DR Congo club AS Dauphin Noir for the signing of young striker Candidat Mapendo.
Mapendo, who is 19 years old, is currently the top scorer in the DR Congo Premier League (Linafoot), having already scored 22 goals this season for AS Dauphin Noir.
Reports from DR Congo indicate that Singida Black Stars have shown strong interest in signing the striker due to his impressive goal-scoring form, speed, and ability to play both inside and outside the penalty box.
However, the Tanzanian side is facing competition from several foreign clubs, including teams from Portugal that are also closely monitoring the highly-rated youngster.
Mapendo has become one of the standout players in the Linafoot league after successfully leading the AS Dauphin Noir attack. In several league matches, he has carried his team by scoring crucial goals, with some Congolese media outlets describing him as one of the country’s most promising emerging strikers.
In addition to being the league’s top scorer, the young forward has also set a unique record by surpassing some statistics previously achieved by former Congolese football stars, including Trésor Mputu, due to his remarkable scoring rate at such a young age.
If Singida Black Stars manage to complete the deal, it would become one of the club’s biggest signings ahead of the new season.
