Young Africans (Yanga) have arrived in Zanzibar today ahead of the Muungano Cup tournament, which is set to kick off tomorrow, Tuesday, April 21, at the New Amaan Complex.
Yanga will open the tournament with a match against Muembe Makumbi, scheduled to be played at 7:00 PM at Amaan Stadium.
Yanga are the defending champions, having won the title last season. This marks the third edition since the tournament was officially reinstated.
In the first edition after its return, Simba emerged as champions, and this year a total of eight clubs will compete for the title.
The winner of this year’s tournament will take home TSh 150 million, a threefold increase from last year’s prize of TSh 50 million. The runner-up will receive TSh 100 million.
Clubs representing Mainland Tanzania include Yanga, Simba, Azam FC, and Singida BS, while KVZ, Mlandege, Mafunzo, and Muembe Makumbi will represent Zanzibar.
