Al Ahly SC have submitted an official request to Egyptian football authorities asking for foreign referees to officiate their match against Pyramids FC.
The Egyptian Premier League fixture is scheduled for April 27, 2026, and is considered one of the most decisive matches in the final stage of the league and the title race.
Reports from various sports sources indicate that Al Ahly’s management took this step following dissatisfaction with decisions made by local referees in their recent matches. The club believes that using foreign officials will help ensure greater transparency and fairness in this crucial encounter.
This is not the first time the historic African giants have raised such concerns, as in previous seasons they have emphasized the importance of international referees in high-profile matches, especially when facing their main rivals.
The clash against Pyramids comes during a congested schedule for Al Ahly SC, who are also set to face Zamalek SC on May 1 in another highly anticipated match among football fans in the country.
According to Egyptian league regulations, clubs are allowed to request foreign referees for specific matches if they meet certain conditions, including covering the travel and accommodation costs of the officials.
Al Ahly currently sit third in the league standings with 44 points, level with Pyramids, while Zamalek SC lead the table with 46 points.
If Al Ahly fail to secure victories against both Pyramids and Zamalek, they risk missing out on qualification for the CAF Champions League next season, as they may not finish in the top two positions.
