Ghana Football Mourns Young Player Dominic Frimpong After Fatal Attack

The football community in Ghana has been struck by tragedy following the death of young player Dominic Frimpong, who passed away after being shot during a robbery attack targeting his team’s bus.

According to international media reports, the incident occurred on Sunday, April 12, 2026, as Berekum Chelsea were returning from a Ghana Premier League match against Samartex.

It is reported that armed assailants ambushed the bus along the way and opened fire, causing panic among players and team officials. During the attack, Frimpong was shot in the head and later died while receiving treatment at the hospital.

Frimpong, aged 20, was playing for Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC. This season, he had featured in several matches and shown promising performances, marking him as one of the rising talents in the country.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has condemned the incident and extended condolences to the player’s family, his club, and the wider football community.

The incident has also raised serious concerns about the safety of football teams during travel to and from league matches, with authorities promising to investigate and bring those responsible to justice.
