Simba SC Reignite Interest in Nigeria Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali

Simba SC have once again been linked with a move for Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali ahead of the 2026/2027 season.

Nwabali is said to be a preferred choice of Simba head coach Steve Barker, who had earlier recommended his signing. However, after the deal initially fell through, the Msimbazi Reds opted to sign Djibrilla Kassali instead.

The 29-year-old is regarded as one of the fastest-rising goalkeepers in Africa, having built a strong reputation through his performances in international matches and in the South African league. Born on June 10, 1996, in Lagos, Nigeria, Nwabali is considered a modern goalkeeper with a complete skill set.

Standing at approximately 1.96 meters tall, he is known for his excellent shot-stopping ability, composure under pressure, and penalty-saving skills—qualities that have made him Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper.

His profile rose significantly during the 2023 AFCON tournament, where he played a key role in helping his national team reach the latter stages, delivering standout performances in high-stakes matches.

Before gaining international recognition, Nwabali played for several clubs in Nigeria before joining :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0} in 2022, where his strong performances attracted attention from clubs across the continent.

Currently, Nwabali has been without a club since February 2026 after leaving Chippa United, making him a potentially available option in the transfer market, although his personal terms could be a challenge.

According to reports, the goalkeeper is demanding a monthly salary of $15,000 to join Simba, which is higher than what he earned during his time at Chippa United.

However, his experience of 34 international caps for Nigeria, along with an impressive record of conceding less than one goal per match on average, makes him a strong candidate to strengthen Simba’s goalkeeping department, especially in international competitions.

Kassali signed a six-month contract and is unlikely to have it extended. Meanwhile, Mouss Camara, who is currently out regaining fitness, could return as an alternative option if Simba fail to secure Nwabali once again.
