The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 18, 2027, according to an official announcement by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This edition will be historic, as it will be held for the first time in the East African region, jointly hosted by three countries: Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. The move marks a major milestone in regional cooperation in the sports sector.
According to the released schedule, the tournament will run for about one month, with matches expected to be played across several cities including Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Dodoma, Zanzibar, Nairobi, and Kampala.
Preparations for the tournament are already gaining momentum, with the respective governments investing in stadium construction and renovations, as well as improving transport infrastructure and other key services.
Meanwhile, the qualification process for teams across Africa has already begun, with preliminary rounds starting earlier this year and the group stage set to be played later in 2026.
AFCON 2027 will also hold special significance, as it is expected to be the final edition held on a biennial basis before a calendar change that will see the tournament take place every four years starting from 2028.
For Tanzania, hosting the tournament is seen as a major opportunity to boost the economy, increase tourism, and strengthen the country’s sports sector.
Football fans in Tanzania and across East Africa are eagerly anticipating the tournament, which is expected to be a unique and historic event for the African continent.
